What type of students can benefit from using MoVIP?

Often students confronted with the following scenarios benefit from MoVIP courses:

  • Courses not offered by the local school
  • Scheduling conflicts
  • Credit recovery
  • Homebound
  • Teen parents
  • Home schooled
  • Alternative or at‐risk students
  • Enrichment and/or Advanced Placement (AP) opportunities

What do I need to do to be successful with online courses?

It is vital that students log in as often as possible and submit assignments. Falling behind in an online course makes it very difficult to succeed. We recommend that you keep in close contact with your teacher and keep up with your assignments. Many classes offer class schedules and we have found it to be beneficial for a student to follow the daily schedule.

What personal and technical skills do I need to succeed in an online course?

Students who choose to participate in online courses will need to examine their personal skills. The following personal skills can contribute to a student’s success:

  • Self-motivated
  • Committed
  • Responsible
  • Independent
  • Computer literate/tech savvy
  • Efficient time manager
  • Effective writing and communication skills

How difficult are the courses?

MoVIP and online courses are not an easy way out. It is a rigorous curriculum. All MoVIP courses adhere to the Missouri standards and grade-level expectations for the area of instruction.

Do I have to be online at a certain time?

No, the courses are self-paced. You do not have to be online at a certain time, but your instructor will ask you to meet deadlines just as in a traditional course. All assignments are accessible for the entire semester to allow for instruction at your own pace.

Will we have class discussions?

Possibly, class discussion may take place in an online discussion area where comments are displayed and left up throughout the course. You may be required to participate in these important discussions regularly. In most courses the quality of your “class participation” will be factored into your final grade.
